Agartala, April 13 (FD) Leader of the opposition of Tripura, Jitendra Chowdhury expressed his concern at the installation of an idol of god Ram at the place at Srirampur RD block at Unakoti district, where earlier a statue of the former Deputy Chief Minister, Baidyanath
Majumder was installed.
Chowdhury in a D/O letter to the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday said, at the mid night of April 11 an idol of god Ram was
installed in place where a statue of the former Deputy Chief Minister was installed.
He mentioned that just after the 2018 elections a statue of later Majumder was vandalized and when the matter came to the knowledge of the then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, he expressed his sorrow and asked his well wishers to reinstall the statue.
Chowdhury said, the people of Tripura were stunned and expressed sorrow when an idol of God Ram was installed in place, where earlier the statue of late Majumder was there. “This is against the culture of our society, which should not be done”, he wrote.
He then requested Chief Minister Saha that the administration takes the initiative to install the statue of Majumder where it was placed
earlier and the idol of God Ram be installed elsewhere with dignity. FD JK
